Mad Snax: Furious Road Trip

The fourth episode of Johnny Ruins Movies, an ongoing series that drops me into famous film scenes and plays them completely straight. Two runners haul a tribute across the desert with raiders on their bumper. The chase is real, the stakes are real, and neither of them is talking about any of it. With the sound off, it is an action scene.

Built as a dialogue piece first. Every line was recorded and locked before a frame of video existed, then the picture was generated and cut to the finished track. Generated performance varies between takes; a conversation that has to track across a dozen shots cannot be left to it. Anything that must not vary gets authored outside the model and fed in.

One location and two faces carry the middle three acts, so the cab was built as a five-angle reference sheet with fixed screen direction — Flora at the wheel, Johnny riding shotgun, the relationship never flipping across a cut. High sun throughout removes directional shadow, which is what usually breaks continuity in a sequence this cut-heavy.

The score cuts out entirely at the moment the piece stops being funny, and stays out. Concept through final master, solo, on a fixed deadline.
